Leading Employers in Canada by 2024

The winners of MediaCorp’s “100 top employers in Canada” competition for 2024 have been announced.

Since it began in 2000, the yearly event has not only attracted widespread notice in Canada but also influences job searches by both natives and foreigners. The competition’s goal is to honor companies who set the standard for “offering exceptional workplaces for their employees” in their respective fields.

What are the requirements for selection?

Any company that has its main office or headquarters in Canada is eligible to enter the competition. Eight selection criteria form the basis of the competition. Companies are graded from A to F in each of the following categories after being compared to other businesses in their sector to determine which ones have the most progressive policies:

  • Work environment;
  • social and workplace environment;
  • economical and familial benefits related to health;
  • time off and vacation;
  • communications among employees;
  • management of performance;
  • instruction and the development of abilities; and
  • Engagement with the community.

A word on getting businesses to sponsor your work permit

Any of these businesses may be able to assist immigrants in establishing their eligibility for economic paths to permanent residency (PR), contingent upon the type of work permit they now hold. It is helpful to remember that in order to be eligible for most economic paths, such as Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) or Express Entry-managed programs, applicants must have completed at least one year of continuous, skilled work experience in Canada.

Whether a migrant has an open or closed work permit (based on a Labour Market Impact Assessment) is a crucial factor in this. With an open work permit, an individual is not restricted to working for any one business and can work for most sectors. A positive or neutral Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) result is required for a work permit based on the LMIA, which limits its holders to working for one employer within a certain industry.
