IRCC invites 1,040 Express Entry candidates in latest draw

Invitations for the most recent Express Entry lottery have been sent out by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

In a general draw, 1,040 individuals were invited by the department.

A minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 543 was needed of candidates.

It was the second draw of 2024 after the general draw on January 10th, which welcomed 1,510 applicants from all Express Entry-managed programs to participate. To be considered, candidates had to have a minimum CRS score of 546.

The most recent drawings come after IRCC held seven consecutive Express Entry lotteries in December, during which it welcomed applicants. For individuals applying through Express Entry who satisfied the requirements for French language fluency as well as trades, transportation, STEM, agricultural, and agri-food occupations, there were two draws for the whole program and the remaining five were category-based selection draws.

Express Entry: What Is It?

In order to aid speed the processing of applications for economic immigration applicants in the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class, Express Entry is an application management system that was launched in 2015.

It assigns ratings based on human capital qualities including age, job experience, language proficiency, vocation, and education using the Comprehensive Ranking System. The candidates who score the highest will have the best chance of being invited to apply (ITA) for the status of permanent residence.

The department began inviting candidates in May 2023 to participate in category-based selection rounds if they can show they meet the requirements for one of the following six new Express Entry draw categories:

  • Jobs in healthcare
  • STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics)
  • tradespeople in positions like contractors, plumbers, and carpenters
  • Jobs in transportation
  • Jobs in agriculture and agri-food
  • strong command of French

To be considered, candidates with these qualities must be included in the application pool under one of the three programs overseen by Express Entry.

Candidates for Express Entry who are nominated under the Provincial Nominee Program also stand to obtain an extra 600 CRS points. This almost ensures that in a future draw, they will receive an ITA.

An Express Entry applicant has sixty days from the moment they get an ITA to send the IRCC their final application for permanent residence status.
