More information on the human capital profiles of those who accepted an Express Entry invitation between January and September 2023 may be found in newly released statistics from the Government of Canada.
53,455 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) were sent out by Canada to candidates for Express Entry during this time.
The ITAs that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) granted in Express Entry drawings held throughout October are not included in the statistics. In October, 9,173 more ITAs were granted.
To display the number of ITAs by program, province, Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, age, and employment, the figures are divided into many categories.
Candidates for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) are screened via the application management system Express Entry. Additionally, it oversees a section of the PNP, or Provincial Nominee Program.
Although the qualifying requirements for each program vary, all applicants are assessed and rated using the Comprehensive Ranking System, which gives points for a candidate’s human capital characteristics including age, education, job experience, and language proficiency.
Candidates for Express Entry who have been nominated through the PNP are also taken into account in the statistics. An Express Entry candidate’s profile gains an automatic 600 CRS points upon receiving a provincial nomination.
In general, CEC applicants in their twenties who are employed as software engineers and who now reside in Ontario or want to do so are the most likely to be awarded an ITA, based only on the data that is currently available.
Requests based on program
The majority of ITAs were given to applicants in the Canadian Experience Class in the first nine months of 2023. All CEC applicants fulfill the language proficiency requirements of the IRCC and have at least one year of qualifying work experience in Canada. 23,910 CEC applicants in total (or about 45% of all ITAs) were given an ITA.
applicants for the Provincial Nominee Program received the third-highest number of ITAs, at 13,655 (about 26% of all ITAs), while applicants for the Federal Skilled Worker Program received the second-most, at 15,855 (almost 30% of all ITAs).
In the FSTP, no ITAs were given to applicants.
Leading professions
The professions that obtained the most ITAs for each degree showed some overlap. For the next three programs, among the top five vocations were software engineers:
Class on Canadian Experience
- 1,725 software developers and designers
- 1,745 computer programmers and creators of interactive media
- 1,375 information systems consultants and analysts
- 1,240 CEC Food Service Supervisors
- Assistants in administration: 855
Federal Program for Skilled Workers
- Accountants and financial auditors: 650
- 570 dentists
- 565 software developers and designers
- Professional jobs in public relations, marketing, and advertising: 505
- Data administrators and database analysts: 420
Provincial Nominee Program
- Other careers: 970
- 820 software developers and designers
- Six fifteen information systems consultants and analysts
- 595 programmers for computers and creators of interactive media
- Operators of connected machinery and welders: 420
Invites based on CRS rating
26,070 applicants, or over half of the total, received CRS scores between 451 and 500, while 11,640 candidates had scores between 501 and 600.
Just 225 applicants for Express Entry who scored between 601 and 700 and 60 who scored between 701 and 800 were given an ITA. An additional 790 received scores between 801 and 900.
Remarkably, more than 7,7550 applicants for Express Entry had CRS scores ranging from 901 to 1,000, and more than 5,040 had scores over 1,000. Getting a provincial nomination is the only method to achieve a CRS score of around 600, which is equivalent to 600 of the 1,200 CRS points that an Express Entry applicant might potentially earn.
Invites from the province
Over 50% of all applicants for Express Entry were either residents of Ontario or planned to move there. 31,550 ITAs were given to these candidates, according to the data.
With 10, 655 ITAs, British Columbia had the second-highest total, while 5,280 ITAs were awarded to candidates in Alberta.
1,595 ITAs were sent to Nova Scotia. The remaining provinces were all below 1,500.
Invitations based on age
Ages 19 to 29 accounted for the majority of candidates who received an ITA. 28,970 individuals in their twenties were awarded ITAs in total.
Twenty-six hundred and five more people in their thirties were encouraged to apply. Fewer than 4,000 applicants who were 40 years of age or older received ITAs.
Younger applicants receive a higher CRS score from the IRCC because, according to Statistics Canada’s longitudinal research, they have more time to adjust to life in Canada and the work market.
According to Statistics Canada study, one of the best indicators of an immigrant’s ability to integrate into the job market is their age. Younger arrivals often have more time to become fluent in French and/or English, obtain Canadian job experience, and build a professional network in Canada. One 20–29-year-old Express Entry candidate earns 110 CRS points. One contestant, who is 19 years old, is awarded 105 points.
Express Entry visa thresholds
While more than the 37,335 total invited in 2022, the number of Express Entry applicants invited between January and September of 2023 still falls short of the 108,105 in 2021.
The epidemic made the last two years exceptional. To help reach its objective of landing over 400,000 immigrants during the pandemic, including border constraints, IRCC raised ITAs to CEC applicants in 2021. But because of the backlog and slower service standards caused by this, the IRCC decided to reduce Express Entry ITAs in 2022.
Most of the ITAs since the epidemic have gone to applicants in the Canadian Experience Class. The FSWP was the top ITA program before the epidemic.
Going forward, the IRCC has established a goal of 110,770 annual admissions of permanent residents to Canada under Express Entry programs in 2024; this number will increase to 117,500 in 2025 and 2026. Due to the fact that successful Express Entry applicants are permitted to arrive with their partners and children as long as they fulfill IRCC requirements, the number of ITAs issued is often less than the number of admissions.
