Canada seeks PNP applicants for the Express Entry lottery

In the most recent Express Entry draw, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) welcomed applicants.

In a draw for candidates for the Provincial Nominee Program, the department welcomed 1,548 applicants.

A Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 776 was necessary for applicants.

This draw comes after the results from the all-program draw on October 10 in which 3,725 applicants got Invitations to Apply (ITAs). Candidates required a CRS of at least 500.

There is no longer a mandatory upfront medical examination for Express Entry applicants.

Prior to submitting their permanent resident application to IRCC on October 1 of this year, Express Entry applicants are no longer needed to undergo an upfront immigrant medical examination (IME).

Candidates may upload a blank document in the upload box of the Express Entry profile builder, but an exam is still required. Later on, IRCC will email you further information on your medical examination.

There is no need to complete a second IME if you have completed one as part of another IRCC application or if you currently reside in Canada.

Describe Express Entry

The Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program are all managed under the application management system known as Express Entry.

These programs use the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to assess applicants. The approach assigns candidates a human capital score based on factors including age, language proficiency, job history, occupation, and education.

Each attribute is given a score, and all of the points are added up to a maximum potential score of 1200. Rarely can candidates get this high a score, and the majority of minimum CRS cut-off scores fall between 350 and 550 (or occasionally higher, depending on the kind of draw). The likelihood of receiving an ITA to submit an application to IRCC for permanent residence status depends on the candidates’ test scores.

What is selection based on categories?

Earlier this year, the IRCC created draw categories where awarding ITAs was determined less heavily by the CRS score. A new rule enacted in June 2022 allows the immigration minister the power to invite applicants who support the French language or fill an economic gap in Canada.

As a result, in May of last year, the IRCC introduced six additional draw categories for Express Entry candidates who either possessed good French language skills or professional experience in:

Healthcare, STEM fields, trades, transportation, agriculture, and agribusiness
Since June, Canada has issued over 10,000 ITAs to candidates through ten separate category-based selection draws. Every applicant was already a part of the Express Entry pool.
